Amigos deliver holiday cheer
Downtown’s favorite friends, the Centro San Antonio
Amigos, became Santa’s helpers this past weekend as they donated over $800
worth of toys to the Elf Louise Christmas Project.
Each year as colder weather approaches, the Centro San
Antonio Amigos take down the bougainvillea plants from the pedestrian light
poles that decorate the downtown streets. The Amigos then host a bougainvillea
sale, collecting money for a different charity each season. Last year, the
Amigos raised hundreds of dollars to donate to Haven for Hope. This year, the
Amigos chose the Elf Louise Project, which collects and distributes toys to
Bexar County’s less fortunate children.

This past weekend, the Amigos replaced their straw
“information” hats and ball caps
with elf hats as they sorted and bagged toys of all kinds – from trucks to
dolls – and brought them to the WOAI Radio-thon at North Star Mall with Elf
Louise, which raised over $148,000 dollars for the charity. Amigos were on hand
at the Radio-thon along with Clear Channel Radio personalities, as well as Red
McCombs, District Attorney Susan Reed, and Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller.
Centro San
Antonio Special Projects Manager Bernie Cantu exclaimed, “The
Amigos truly enjoyed being a part of the Elf Louise Christmas Project.”
