The Palm to honor Centro San Antonio Amigos in celebration of National Tourism Week

The Palm to honor Centro San Antonio Amigos in celebration of National Tourism Week

In celebration of National Tourism Week, The Palm San Antonio will host the Centro San Antonio Amigos for lunch on Friday May 13, 2011 in appreciation of their dedication to making downtown a clean and friendly destination for visitors and locals from near and far. While the Amigos are invited to dine al fresco, they will be looked over by not only The Palm’s attentive staff but the smiling “faces” of San Antonio’s leading businessmen, politicians and celebrities whose caricatures line the restaurant’s famed walls. Often called “the face of San Antonio,” themselves, the 65+ Amigos provide a host of services that improve downtown through the Ambassador, Streetscaping, and Maintenance programs.

General Manager of The Palm San Antonio, Jon Edwards, remarked, “Who better to acknowledge during National Tourism Week than the Amigos.  These Ambassadors of San Antonio welcome visitors from all over the world, keep our Downtown streets clean and safe and give all of us who live and work Downtown one more reason to be proud of Downtown San Antonio!”

For the first half of FY2011, which includes Q1 of FY2011 (October 1 - December 31, 2010) and For Q2 of FY2011 (January 1, 2011 - March 31, 2011), the Amigos:

  • Picked up 44, 065 trashbags
  • Removed 4, 497 grafitti tags
  • Provided assistance to 398,080 visitors
  • Removed 31, 235 gum spots
  • Walked over 36,581 miles

While The Palm San Antonio and Centro San Antonio celebrate National Tourism week locally, National Tourism Week is a collective effort across the U.S. to celebrate the cultural and social benefits created by travel and tourism. In San Antonio, travel and tourism has an estimated economic impact of $11 billion annually. It employs roughly 100,000 people and brings 25 million people a year to San Antonio. Tourism is directly connected to our quality of life and this year we continue to honor the people on the front lines with our "Tourism Is..." campaign.
