From your perspective, how has the downtown health care community evolved over the years?

Nix has been anchored downtown since 1930.  Downtown healthcare facilities and physicians have always offered the finest in innovative healthcare and quality.  Most of the physicians who moved out to the Medical Center in the late 1960’s had established practices downtown and as such the Nix and other facilities were the birthplace of healthcare in San Antonio.  Today patients continue to have access to a broad array of services and specialists as well as exceptional primary care physicians to take care of all their healthcare needs.

Nix Health has been a part of downtown San Antonio for decades. Has being downtown been a key to the longevity of Nix Health?

Downtown San Antonio is centrally located to the patients we serve who come from throughout Bexar County and South Texas.  The convenience of this location and the stability we have continued to demonstrate over the years benefits all of our patients, physicians, and visitors. 

How do you think the influx of new downtown residents will affect the health care industry downtown?

Having a robust and energetic downtown can only enhance our ability to succeed and expand our services.  Increasing the residential component will create more demand for a variety of services and convenience which will be met by the healthcare industry with energy and enthusiasm.

What do you think is the future of health care in the center city?

I am very confident that services in the city center will continue to grow to meet the needs of increasing demand.  A robust and energetic downtown will ensure that these services continue to be provided with the highest level of quality and convenience.  We at Nix have already taken major steps to augment our services in this direction by expanding our intensive care capacity, increasing the number of medical surgical beds, and enhancing imaging capabilities such as 3D mammography.

Is there anything in particular that you would like people to know about Nix Health?

Nix offers a broad platform of medical/surgical services, behavioral health services, rehabilitation services, and home care services conveniently located throughout San Antonio.  Our downtown location offers a full array of medical/surgical services and physician offices encompassing a strong primary care base and a full complement of all major specialties.  For a downtown resident or business, it’s important to know that the very finest and convenient, high quality care for any issue is centrally located in your downtown community.

What prompted you to become a Downtown Alliance member?

As a downtown business we felt it was important to be a part of the downtown community to support growth, vitalization and other efforts that affect not only businesses, but residents and visitors.
