The San Antonio Zoo is ranked as one of the best zoos in the nation exhibiting over 3,500 animals of 600 species. Located at the headwaters of the San Antonio River, the Zoo encompasses 35 landscaped acres. Several interaction exhibits include: Kronkoskys Tiny Tot Nature Spot, a magnificent mini-zoo designed specifically for children under 5, Butterflies! Caterpillar Flight School, a lush tropical habitat surrounded by hundreds of butterflies (open March Nov), Fun Farm Petting Zoo where everyone can pet African Pygmy goats, and Lory Landing, a rainbow of colorful birds flying about the canopy of an outdoor aviary, occasionally landing on visitors ($1 to feed the lories). The San Antonio Zoo is open 365 days a year. Hours: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. from Labor Day to Memorial Day; 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., Memorial Day to Labor Day.
