The inaugural Make A Difference Award contest and luncheon were inspired by Ruth's Chris Steak House owner Lana Dukes dedication to the children of Roy Maasâ Youth Alternatives (RMYA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to the care of abused, neglected, and abandoned children.
The awards honor those individuals and businesses that give back to the San Antonio community, and are a way of celebrating the unsung heroes in our community that go unrecognized too often, according to Ramiro A Cavazos, President and CEO of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Duke and a panel of judges will select the winners who will be announced at a luncheon on Thursday, October 22 at Ruth's Chris Steak House Downtown, during National Make A Difference Month. Each winner will receive an award commemorating their recognition as the first 2009 Make A Difference Award recipients.
