On April 9, 2010, Downtown Alliance will recognize the best people, places, projects and events in downtown San Antonio at the 10th Annual Downtown’s BEST Awards at the Westin Riverwalk. In order to crown the best of the best, Downtown Alliance is currently seeking nominations to be submitted online at http://www.downtownsa.org/best by March 19.

Laid-back, bilingual , historic,friendly, warm—in both temperature and temperament—these are a few words that describe San Antonio. Another?Unique, bestowed on the city by the great Mark Twain. Legend has it that he called San Antonio one of only four unique cities in the United States(alongside Boston, New Orleans, and San Francisco). Today the tiny mission town has grown into a metropolis of more than 1 million people, but Twain’s century-old assessment still rings true.

As San Antonio gears up for the annual Stock Show and Rodeo, the City invites you to mosey downtown for the “Houston Street Two-Step” this Saturday, January 30 from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. This free event is open to the public.

Stella Ramirez, a native San Antonian, has been an Amigo for ten years and is one of the five employees that have been with Centro San Antonio since the beginning.

The Centro San Antonio Amigos turn ten in January, a special anniversary that celebrates a decade of service improving downtown through the Ambassador, Maintenance, and Streetscaping programs. To help mark the milestone, the Amigos will be trading in their token “teal” shirts for gold ones that will include the refreshed Centro logo. Read more
