San Antonio City Council members on Thursday approved a $2.3 billion balanced budget for fiscal year 2010.
City officials say it is a budget that focuses on the municipal government’s core mission and basic services but still includes $19 million in reduced spending.
“During these tough economic times, we’ve had to make some difficult choices,” says San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro. “But we’ve done so in a way that prioritizes the core functions of city government to best serve all San Antonians.”
Mayor Julián Castro said Wednesday that San Antonio is the last major U.S. city that hasn't invested in a passenger rail system, but that's about to change.
Helping VIA Metropolitan Transit board Chairman Henry Muñoz and others to announce creation of the Commission on Intra-City Rail & Streetcar, Castro said the recasting of the Alamo City's transit future is under way.
