SABJ: HemisFair plan key to future of downtown

San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro says he is convinced that HemisFair Park, site of the 1968 World’s Fair, will finally become something more than a monument to a bygone era. Downtown stakeholders say the redevelopment of that 80-acre site is critical if San Antonio hopes to lure more businesses and a broader mix of residents to the center city. History to come alive at 2011 Cattle Drive

On January 29, 2011, kick off the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo and come watch history come alive at the Houston Street Two Step: Cattle Drive and Houston Street Stroll as cowboys guide an impressive herd of Texas Longhorns down Houston Street, where only a trail existed 150 years ago. The herd will be followed by other Western-themed entertainers, wagons, and riders in a colorful procession along Houston Street from the Santa Rosa Hospital all the way to the Alamo.

But it’s hard to ignore market realities. While downtown rental apartments are in short supply and high demand, its offices aren’t nearly as popular.

New Centro San Antonio Mobile Kiosk Delivers Help on Wheels

The Centro San Antonio Amigos help over 750,000 people a year in downtown San Antonio, and with the introduction of their new mobile information kiosk this week, they plan to help even more. The new Centro Mobile Information Kiosk trailer will be taken out daily between 9:30am and 8:30pm to various high traffic areas within the Public Improvement District including the Street Car Station on Alamo, Market Square, and La Villita. Additionally, the Centro Mobile Information Kiosk will provide support for the City of San Antonio Convention and Visitor Bureau during the construction and renovation of the Visitor Center on Alamo between January 17 and early March.
