Downtown has been a bit quieter these past few weeks but big things are now breaking through the silence. Take the new mural on the side of La Boulangerie on Broadway. Local artist Kathy Sosa’s creation “Keep Calm Et Macaron” brings the color and flare of the French-owned and operated bakery outside to the downtown cityscape.

Your next trip downtown will not be complete without soaking in the massive pastel mural and the message of hope it conveys. “I’m moved that [the mural] had an application that could make people feel better in a hard time,” says Kathy. The message and artwork are part of her larger series “Keep Calm Y Dream On,” which uses a consistent theme to convey messages of hope.

After snapping a selfie in front of the mural, head into La Boulangerie for true French baking. Owners Sylvain and Sylvie opened the bakery eight years ago out of a desire to share their native French cuisine right in the heart of San Antonio. It has since become a downtown favorite.

A mainstay here is the classic French croissant. Why not “live the mural” with a plate of macaron as well? They also offer healthy food options such as the vegan bowl.

La Boulangerie is walkable from most downtown landmarks and sits along the growing Broadway Cultural Corridor. It is right next to a public parking lot as well as several other nearby parking options.

Find It Downtown. Do It Downtown.

“Keep Calm Et Macaron” is part of Centro San Antonio’s “Art Everywhere” initiative, a partnership with Luminaria: Contemporary Arts Festival which supports local businesses, artists, and art programs while showcasing our city’s cultural assets.
