“A lot of people call us a convenience store but we’re so much more than that,” says Jessica Provost, Owner of Royal Blue Grocery in downtown San Antonio.

Centro’s Senior Main Street Navigator Linda Stone recently caught up with Provost at her store on Houston Street. Jessica says it was important to her that the store be a resource for locals amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. “The people who live downtown have voiced how grateful they are that we have stayed open,” she explains.

The concept of Royal Blue is a simple one: Be a part of and serve the community. That’s why they offer many products which are sourced from local and regional vendors. Jessica even encourages customers to recommend items for the store to carry. “We’ve discovered some really cool products that way,” she says.

Royal Blue carries standard brands for quick snacking, but also produce, health food, and enough ingredients to prepare your own meals

It’s an unconventional place because it not only offers your standard brands for quick snacking, but also produce, health food, and enough ingredients to prepare your own meals. Jessica explains that they want to be a store that has something for everyone, regardless of whether you’re a service industry worker, tech entrepreneur, City employee, visitor, local, etc.

The space itself even feels like a part of San Antonio, as Royal Blue worked to preserve aspects of the original building such as real wood floors, partially exposed brick walls, and large rear windows.

Jessica Provost curates wines from around the world, including her native California

If you’re planning a trip, be sure to check out the wine cove, where Jessica has curated wines from around the world, including her native California. These are small batch wines that you usually cannot find at big box stores.

We want to be there for the community.
